1.5m ratings 277k ratings see, that’s what the app is perfect for. sounds perfect wahhhh, i don’t wanna i'm making my first board game! i thought it would help if i wrote some things down about it and shared it with you guys... posts likes ask me things archive i’m making a board game! that’s it really. clue is in the title… just kidding! let me talk about ‘me’ for a second although i promise to talk about me a lot less as these posts progress… me i am a forty-tfrshsnsh-year old from the county of kent in the u.k. - i spent my 20′s working on and (predominantly) off as an actor. i got to play a load of different roles in lots of different media forms - theatre, tv, radio, cruise ships, schools, swimming pools & i once roamed through some woods scaring the crap out of the paying public! this was fun… but the work got thin and for some unknown reason i became a parent with responsibilities and ‘commitments’ and all that dreary normal stuff… i learnt to build websites to make ends meet and for the past 7 years i have earned a living writing code and pretending i know what i am doing - those acting skills finally paid off! so, loads has changed since i was a wee kid, but one thing… dramatic pause… one thing… has always remained the same… i love playing board games and i have always wanted to make one! what sort of games do i play? let’s just do a list shall we… (recently) burgle bros, game of dracula (1975 board game), 80′s trivial pursuit, chess, harry potter destination (yay), downton abbey destination (boo), the really nasty horse racing game, the hobbit, cluedo, dungeons & dragons board game (never have the time though), monopoly, code names card game, scotland yard, sorry, guess who, settlers of catan, cards - canasta, whist, etc. , top trumps… on top of that i am part of the ‘original’ computer gaming generation… played a whole bunch of games… i’m sure there are many more, but you get the general picture. am i a board game connoisseur? probably not, but i know what i like playing and recently there has been such a fantastic uprising of people playing board games. it’s like it was once a taboo thing to admit, but these days being a bit geeky is not something people hide away from… it has become an embraceable thing and i for one am happy to hold aloft my thick rimmed spectacles and cry out to the world ‘i’m going to this convention and you can’t stop me!’ - for the record i don’t wear glasses… anyway… what’s my point? that last bit didn’t really have one… let’s talk about this game idea shall we? an idea… i’ve had many game ideas over the years. i have also not done much about those ideas over the years which probably indicates that the idea itself wasn’t really that good. i don’t think this is down to laziness that those ideas haven’t progressed, but when i found myself thinking about an idea for a game at the start of the week and then found myself thinking about it again later that week and then found myself cutting out bits of paper, writing notes and trying to see if my idea would work… i thought… i should do more with this. i should take this further… and that’s really what this blog is about. the game i have in mind is a hexagonal tile based game which players can move around to aid themselves and hinder their opponents. the tiles will create a maze for each player to navigate out of and the victor will (probably) be the first to escape… but there might be gold… in bags… i want to bring in a mild aspect of rpg into it, but nothing that will bog down the gameplay… it’s possibly burgle bros meets catan but i want to point out that i am not stealing their overall gameplay in any way - merely borrowing and developing mechanics of excellent games that i enjoy playing… i was going to call the game escape-the-somethings-maze-or-dungeon, but i don’t want to characterise the game from the outset - e.g. it’s about goblins or minotaurs or chicken-headed zombies (god know where that idea came from!) - that can come later… for now my game is called… trapped! i have rambled and ambled and i will try and keep things much shorter as i progress… hope you haven’t left already… more soon… i promise… until next time yeah? boardgames board gaming trapped jul 14th, 2017 open in app facebook tweet reddit mail embed permalink recently liked thesetupwizard seriously though… jd- why is there a spell that turns animals into water goblets? why does it exist? why did somebody seek out to either develop or discover a spell that turns animals into water goblets? why are we teaching children how to turn animals into water goblets? there is a spell that fixes broken bones but we are teaching children how to turn animals into water goblets. why? why!? setupwizard itguy hogwarts animalsintowatergoblets 2,304 notes open in app facebook tweet reddit mail embed permalink
